Bro. Adrian R. Mazuchowski, M.M., of Detroit, died May 12 at Mission St. Teresa’s Residence in Ossining, N.Y. He was 95 and a Maryknoll Brother for 66 years.

Born March 14, 1921, in Detroit, he attended St. Andrew’s Parochial School in Detroit and St. Alphonsus Parochial School in Dearborn. After graduating from Wilbur Wright Vocational High School, he attended the Lawrence Institute of Technology in Highland Park. He entered the United States Armed Services in October of 1942 and served in Europe with the 12th Armored Division. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1946. While studying at the University of Detroit, he entered Maryknoll in 1947.

Upon pronouncing his First Oath of Obedience on June 29, 1949, Richard Mazuchowski took the religious name Bro. Adrian. After professing his Permanent Oath on June 21, 1952, he was assigned to Japan.

He served in the business office of the Maryknoll Center House in Tokyo, also serving as secretary to the regional superior of Maryknoll’s Japan Region. In 1982, he was elected to serve as second assistant to the regional superior and represented the Maryknoll Brothers in Asia at Maryknoll’s Inter-Chapter Society Assembly held at Stanley House, Hong Kong. He later worked in the parish apostolate in Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan.

In 1984, Bro. Mazuchowski returned to the United States to serve in the Controller’s Office at the Maryknoll Center in Ossining. He served two terms as internal auditor of the Maryknoll Society, and in 1990 was elected as delegate to Maryknoll’s Ninth General Chapter in 1990; he was appointed Second regional assistant to Maryknoll’s United States Region in 1991.

He retired in 1997 but continued to work in Maryknoll’s Chicago development house, assisting with financial matters. In 2011, he moved to Maryknoll, N.Y., where he served part-time in accounting.

He is survived by his sister, Virginia Boomer of Walled Lake, as well as nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial was May 17 in Ossining, N.Y., followed by burial in the Maryknoll Society Cemetery there.
