Troy — Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan will honor its chairman and two longtime employees, as well as three local parishes, during the social service agency’s annual gala on April 28.

The Annual Celebration is one of Catholic Charities’ largest fundraisers of the year. Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan serves as the charitable service arm of the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Msgr. Charles Kosanke, pastor of Ste. Anne and Most Holy Trinity parishes in Detroit and chairman of CCSEM’s board, will be honored with the Monticello Award for Lifetime Achievement. Msgr. Kosanke has served as board chairman since CCSEM’s conception in 2012 after a merger of several local county-based Catholic Charities offices.

Two others, Herschell Masten and Laurie Fagan, will also be honored for their years of service. Masten has served 30 years as director of several programs, including senior services, Hispanic outreach and adult day services, while Fagan has served 40 years in CCSEM’s behavioral health services, focusing on substance abuse.

Three local parishes will also be recognized with the agency’s “Time, Talent and Treasure” awards for their contributions to Catholic Charities’ work.

Immaculate Conception  Parish in Lapeer “makes at least two referrals to the Lapeer CCSEM behavioral health office each month consistently,” and the parish’s community work “complements the work of CCSEM, offering support to the needy through the corporal and spiritual works of mercy and use of their facility as needed,” said a statement from Catholic Charities.

St. Vincent Pallotti Parish in Wyandotte, meanwhile, “has been a dependable supporter of CCSEM” for many years, the agency said, especially through its donations and volunteer support of All Saints Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry in Detroit.

St. Joseph Chaldean Catholic Church in Troy also supports the food kitchen and food pantry, while also “adopting” families through various CCSEM ministries during the Advent and Christmas seasons. In addition, St. Joseph’s women’s group, WinGS, promotes CCSEM’s pro-life ministry, Project Hope, through various means, including its annual Mother’s Day Tea.

The gala will take place from 6-10 p.m. at the Somerset Inn, 2601 West Big Beaver Road, Troy. For tickets, or to learn how to help sponsor Catholic Charities’ ministries, call (248) 778-6150 or visit ccsem.org/event/2018-annual-celebration.
