Metro Area -- Detroit Catholic League hockey teams occupy the top four spots in the standings of the Michigan Interscholastic Hockey League after weekend action.
Novi Detroit Catholic Central leads the 8-member league with 15 points on the basis of 7 wins, 3 losses and a tie.
A point behind is Warren DeLaSalle (7-1-0). Birmingham Brother Rice (6-2-1) is third with 12 points, and Orchard
Lake St. Mary’s (5-4-0) follows with 10 points.
Detroit U-D Jesuit, the other Catholic League entrant, is struggling with a 1-7-0 record.
The other schools in the league, which was formed in the 1999-2000 season, are Cranbrook, Grosse Pointe North and Port Huron Northern.
The Catholic League teams also claim the top 10 scorers, led by a pair of Brother Rice skaters: junior forward Mackenzie MacEachern, 17 points on five goals and 12 assists, and senior forward John Hickman with 10 goals and 3 assists for 13 points.
On an overall basis, DeLaSalle, after a season-opening loss to Brother Rice, has won 11 straight games for a 11-1 record, a step ahead of Brother Rice (10-2-1).
In Catholic League action, Catholic Central leads Central 1A with a 4-0 mark, while DeLaSalle heads Central IB with a 2-0 record.
RANKINGS: Hockey
In Division 1, Catholic Central (8-4-1) is ranked second and St. Mary’s (9-4) third by the Michigan High Schools Hockey Coaches Association.
In Division 2, DeLaSalle (11-1) is placed second and Brother Rice (10-2-1) third.
In Division 3, Dearborn Divine Child is rated fourth.
RANKINGS: Boys swimming
Brother Rice, ranked sixth in Division 1, is the lone Catholic League school among the three divisions compiled by the Michigan Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association.
RANKINGS: Skiing
In Girls ski, Birmingham Marian is ranked first in Division 1 and Pontiac Notre Dame Prep sixth in Division 2 as compiled by the Michigan High School Ski Coaches Association.
In Boys ski, Catholic Central is ranked seventh in Division 1.
