On May 13, the Detroit Tigers and Comerica Park will sponsor a special tribute to the Catholic High School League, with fans eligible to purchase a game ticket and special CHSL/Detroit Tigers cap for $22. (

The Detroit Tigers are saluting the Catholic High School League on Monday, May 13, when the Tigers take on the Houston Astros at 7:10 p.m. at Comerica Park.

A special theme event $22 ticket package will be available that includes a game ticket, a Detroit Tigers CHSL/School Hat and a $5 donation to the Catholic High School League.

When fans purchase a ticket, they can designate a CHSL school that will be stitched on the Tigers cap.

“This a great opportunity,” said Vic Michaels, CHSL director, “to show your school spirit, cheer for the Tigers, and support the Catholic League.” Last year, he said, some 3,500 people showed up for the annual event.

The only way to purchase the special package and receive the exclusive merchandise is online through this special link. For groups of 15 or more, contact [email protected].

Another Major Leaguer

A postscript: Vic Michaels informed us of another former CHSL baseball player who made it to the majors.

Jeff Kaiser, an alumnus of Southgate Aquinas, pitched parts of seven seasons for five teams (Cleveland, New York Mets, Cincinnati, Detroit, Oakland) between 1985 and 1993. He never pitched more than 15 games or 16.2 innings in a Major League season. He finished his career with a 0-2 record and an ERA of 9.17 in 50 games.

That makes 31 former CHSL players who made it to the majors.
