Daniel Malone named CEO of St. Vincent de Paul’s Detroit chapter

Detroit — Daniel P. Malone has been named the new chief executive officer of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in the Archdiocese of Detroit.

The board of directors of the society’s Detroit chapter released a statement indicating Malone would be appointed CEO effective March 1.

Malone has been a member of the Butzel Long law firm for 38 years, practicing out of the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office.

Malone has also served as an adjunct professor at the Detroit College of Law and Wayne State University School of Law.

“I have always budgeted time for our community, and the dramatic rise in inequality that our nation has witnessed this past year has only heightened that interest,” Malone said. “Now I want to pursue those efforts on a full time basis. St. Vincent de Paul Society of Detroit has provided me with precisely that opportunity.”

Malone has served at various nonprofits in the area, including serving on the board of Generation of Promise, University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Boysville of Michigan.

“We are extremely pleased that Dan is joining St. Vincent de Paul Detroit,” said Therese Frye, president of the board of directors. “Dan brings a servant’s heart to the position of CEO. We look forward to his working with the rest of our team in furthering our mission of caring for those in need.”

Malone will succeed Roger Playwin, who’s served as interim CEO for four months.
