
Lawrence Kelleher was born July 28, 1922, in Butte, Mont., to Edward and Winifred Kelleher.
Fr. Kelleher was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II (Sept. 29, 1942–Feb. 1, 1946), being honorably discharged as a Technician Fourth Grade. He served in Europe.
He attended Catholic schools and earned an MBA from the University of Detroit. He studied for the priesthood at Holy Apostles College and Seminary (Conn.).
In 1986, he retired from employment with Burroughs (now Unisys) Corporation after 45 years — 35 in marketing management. He was field engineering manager of the company’s Jersey City, N.J., office and in 1955 accepted a promotion in Detroit.
His wife of 42 years, Margaret, died in 1989, and he entered seminary. He was ordained June 11, 1993, serving the Gaylord diocese until 2005, including as associate pastor for St. Mary Cathedral Parish in Gaylord.
Fr. Kelleher is survived by his four daughters, Kathy Loughrey, Nancy Nurse (Dr. Richard, D.V.M.), Mary Silverman (Alan), and Rosemarie Spankie (Richard); 12 grandchildren (Heather Huebner, Colleen Loughrey, David Loughrey, Matthew Nurse, Michelle Nurse, Meghan Nurse, Steven Silverman, Timothy Spankie, Sister Chiara Luce (Maria Spankie), Paul Spankie, Anna Spankie, and Grace Spankie), one great-grandson, David Huebner; and his sister, Anne Wolff.
A funeral Mass was March 6 at Guardian Angels Church in Clawson, with Gaylord Bishop Steven Raica as celebrant. Rite of Committal was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
