Mercy, Bishop Foley, Fr. Gabriel Richard and De La Salle capture CHSL bowling championships

WESTLAND — Farmington Hills Mercy girls won their second in a row and 11th Catholic High School League bowling championship while Ann Arbor Fr. Gabriel Richard boys took home the school’s first trophy.

In between, Madison Heights Bishop Foley girls won their fourth and Warren De La Salle Collegiate boys their third in competition staged Feb. 15 at Oak Lanes.

Some 13 boys squads and nine girls teams were in contention.

Mercy won the girls Bishop Division championship by 86 pins against Dearborn Divine Child. Bishop Foley won its fourth Cardinal Division title in the last six years by 91 pins over Allen Park Cabrini.

On the boys side, De La Salle was 54 pins better than University of Detroit Jesuit for the Bishop Division trophy. Fr. Gabriel Richard bested Jackson Lumen Christi by 74 pins for the Cardinal Division title.

Top individual honors went to seniors Jacey Thibodeau of Bishop Foley and Cody Champion of Detroit Loyola.

Thibodeau, who recently committed to Duquesne University, had a 739 series on games of 252 275 212.

Champion’s 678 series was put together on games of 258 188 232. Two weeks ago, he rolled a 300 game, the first in his career and only the fourth in state high schools this year.
