Sr. Norine Wholihan, IHM, 91, died July 9 in the IHM Senior Living Community, Monroe.

Sr. Wholihan was born in Detroit, one of four children of Daniel and Doris (Mulligan) Wholihan. She entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on July 2, 1945, and received the religious name Francis Edward.

Sr. Wholihan earned her degrees from Marygrove College in Detroit and served more than 50 years teaching at elementary schools in Michigan, Illinois and Puerto Rico. In Michigan, she served at St. Mary, Wayne; Our Lady of Good Counsel, St. Patrick and Gesu in Detroit; St. Stephen, Port Huron; St. Regis, Bloomfield Hills; Holy Name, Birmingham; and St. Mary, Mt. Morris. During the last 10 years of her ministry, Sr. Wholihan taught at Franklin Adult Education Center in Detroit, and was a math tutor and continuing education instructor at Marygrove.

Mass of Christian Burial was to be celebrated July 12 at the IHM Motherhouse.
