Detroit — They were available, for an instant, and then they were gone.
Tickets to the Nov. 18 beatification Mass for Capuchin Fr. Solanus Casey were released to the public Oct. 9 — and it took only a few hours for all 13,000 public tickets to be claimed.
“We are humbled by the overwhelming response from the public to attend the beatification of Fr. Solanus Casey. It is truly a testament to his impact on our community and those throughout the world,” Fr. Michael Sullivan, OFM Cap., provincial minister of the Capuchin Province of St. Joseph, said in a statement.
Though Ford Field will accommodate 65,000 people for the beatification Mass, the majority of tickets have been reserved by parishes and ministries. The remaining 13,000 tickets were available for individuals to claim online.
“On behalf of the Archdiocese of Detroit, I am grateful to see the interest and excitement surrounding the upcoming beatification of Fr. Solanus,” Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron said. “It is a particular joy knowing that so many of the faithful from southeast Michigan – and beyond – will be at Ford Field to share in this wonderful event in the life of the Church. Let us all be thankful for the blessing which we have already received and, as Fr. Solanus told us, thank God ahead of time for the many blessings yet to come.”
For those who weren’t able to get a ticket, organizers are planning to livestream the Mass for TV and Internet viewing, with details to be available soon.
