Boys to determine A-B, C-D finalists this week

Metro area -- Boys basketball will be determining its finalists this week for next Sunday’s A-B and C-D Championship.

Detroit Loyola and Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes will meet for one of the C-D spots at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Bloomfield Hills Marian. In quarterfinal action last Saturday, Loyola disposed of Detroit Cristo Rey, 82-44, while the Lakers beat Mt. Clemens Cardinal Mooney, 55-50.

Royal Oak Shrine and Madison Heights Bishop Foley will play for the other C-D slot at 6 p.m. Wednesday, also at Marian. Shrine advanced by clobbering Allen Park Cabrini, 71-47, while Foley had no trouble with Clarkston Everest, 75-45.

In the A-B Division, Warren DeLaSalle struggled past Dearborn Divine Child, 50-45, to move on to the semi-finals at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at Marian. DLS will tip off against Novi Detroit Catholic Central, victors over Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice, 62-38.

U-D Jesuit and Orchard Lake St. Mary’s will compete for the other A-B spot at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Marian. U-D handled Ann Arbor Fr. Gabriel Richard, 77-59, while St. Mary’s went to three overtimes before subduing Notre Dame Prep, 77-72.

The championship finals will be held next Sunday at U-D Mercy Calihan Hall. The C-D game begins at 1 p,m., followed at 3 p.m. by the A-B game.
