In Brief: Detroit parish to offer 'Blessing of the Sneakers' before Detroit Marathon

DETROIT ─ SS. Peter and Paul (Jesuit) Church will provide some spiritual nourishment for the Detroit Free Press Marathon participants with the 9th Annual Blessing of the Sneakers.

A runner’s Mass will be offered on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 5 p.m., the day before the Detroit Free Press Marathon will take place, where people of all denominations and faith backgrounds are welcome.

The church is located on the corner of Jefferson Avenue and St. Antoine Street, with free parking provided at the University of Detroit Mercy Law School parking lot on Larned Street.

Following Mass, a blessing of sneakers will be offered by Fr. Gary Wright, S.J.
