Cabrini tops Bishop Foley for volleyball title







Detroit -- Cabrini captured its second straight C-D Division Catholic League Championship on October 25 with a 3-1 win over Bishop Foley.

In the gym of Livonia-based Madonna University, the Monarchs racked up scores of 25-21, 25-15, 22-25 and 25-23 for the victory.

Cabrini had beaten Academy of the Sacred Heart on Oct. 21 to advance to the finals, while Bishop Foley had gotten through both Cardinal Mooney and a tough match with Shrine -- ending Shrine’s streak of appearing in 10 consecutive C-D finals.

It was Bishop Foley’s first trip to the finals in 15 years.

Receiving All-Academic honors in C-D volleyball were Cabrini’s Diana Ferraiuolo, Cranbrook’s Eva Heidingsfelder, Urban Lutheran’s Minyon McClary, Risto Rey’s Jacqueline Morales, Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s Kaitlyn Patrick, Jewish Academy’s Jessica Polk, Academy of the Sacred Heart’s Chloe Seaman, Bishop Foley’s Anna Sinagoga, Our Lady of the Lake’s Abbey Troy, Shrine’s Julia Walsh and Cardinal Mooney’s Andrea Young.

All-League honors were given to Angelique White of Academy of the Sacred Heart; Paige Weaver of Cranbrook; Abbey Troy and Haley Howell of Our Lady of the Lakes; Arayna Thomas of Urban Lutheran; Colleen Szakacs and Ariella Hall of Bishop Foley; Taylor Schafer of Cardinal Mooney; Michelle Mann of Shrine; Elise Harcek and Emily Bondar of Cabrini; Stephanie Glenn of Cristo Rey; and Anna Eisenberg of Jewish Academy.

Earning All-Catholic honors were Julia Walsh, MacKenzie Glaros and Colleen Arce of Shrine; Rachel Shirey and Amanda Obrycki of Cabrini; Danielle Partyka of Bishop Foley; Emily O’Brien and Farrah Nordman of Our Lady of the Lakes; Jenny Craft of Our Lady of Mount Carmel; Analisa Cook of Academy of the Sacred Heart; and Caley Chelios of Cranbrook.

Coaches of the year were Our Lady of the Lake’s Stephanie Swearingen in the East Division and Cabrini’s Cheryl Szczdrowski in the West Division.
