CMMB elects local man chairman

Detroit — Chris Allen, executive director of the Detroit Wayne County Health Authority, has been elected chairman of the Catholic Medical Mission Board, a New York-based lay-run nonprofit that seeks to bring medical care in accordance with Catholic teachings to the poor and underserved in countries around the world.

Allen has served as chairman of CMMB’s finance committee since 2010.

Earlier this year, CMMB rolled out its 2014-2020 strategy, which focuses on women and children. In particular, its work will center on the establishment of CHAMPS (Children And Mothers Partnerships), a 15-year commitment to existing health systems in underserved areas that maximizes community engagement and partnerships.
