Detroit — A round of golf and a banquet saluting outstanding athletes, coaches and administrators make up the agenda for the Catholic High School League’s Hall of Fame Day on June 11 at the Fern Hill Country Club in Clinton Township.
A scramble shotgun start will commence at 11 a.m., while the evening’s festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception.
A dozen athletes who have received their college degree this calendar year while excelling in inter-collegiate athletics will be added to the roster of nearly 250 athletes who have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since 1976. They are: Karie Altman (Allen Park Cabrini, Madonna University), Jeff Bultinck (Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, Madonna University), Molly Coldren (Notre Dame Prep, Central Michigan University), Ashley Hart (Bloomfield Hills Marian, Concordia), Ryan Houska (Novi Detroit Catholic Central, Cornell University), Maria Iaquaneillo (Dearborn Divine Child, Western Michigan University), Mike Martin (Detroit Catholic Central, University of Michigan), James Pearson (Detroit U-D Jesuit, U. S. Naval Academy), Justin Siller (Orchard Lake St. Mary's Prep, Purdue), and Michael Zennedjian (Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice, Xavier University).
School coaches and administrators who will be inducted for their distinguished service to the CHSL are Rev. Lawrence Delonnay (Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes), Tony DeMare (Divine Child), Roy Dudas (Detroit Catholic Central), Gregg Golden (Warren Regina), Doug McKay (Warren DeLaSalle), and Bill Thompson (Marian), attorney S. Gary Spicer Sr., and officials Sharon Harris-Higgins and Gary Jenkins.
The Ed Lauer Person of the Year award will be presented to George Porritt of St. Mary's Prep. Hally Yonko, athletic director at Ann Arbor Fr. Gabriel Richard, will receive the Tom Kelly Athletic Director of the Year award, while Regina (School of the Year) and Marine City Cardinal Mooney (Booster Club of the Year) round out this year’s award winners.
