Detroit -- The Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe are looking to reward an individual or group that sets a good example of protecting God's creation.

The religious order in August launched a Sustainable Living Award to recognize individuals who reflect the eco-friendliness of the IHM community.

“The IHM Mentors of Sustainable Living Award will recognize individuals who join with others to bring about a sustainable global society founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice and a culture of peace,” the sisters wrote in a news release.

Both individuals and organizations are eligible for the award -- though not the IHM sisters or their associates. The order is accepting nominations up until Oct. 1. They plan to announce the award winner on Jan. 1, 2011, and to present the award at a May 5 banquet at the IHM Motherhouse.
