BLOOMFIELD HILLS ─ The Piety Hill Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recognized Marian senior Katie Pietrosante with its Good Citizen Award at a Jan. 13 event held at the Bloomfield Township Public Library.

Founded in 1980, the DAR is a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to historic preservation, education, and patriotism. The DAR Good Citizen Award celebrates individuals who exemplify the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities.

Pietrosante was selected for this distinguished honor by her teachers and peers, recognizing her outstanding commitment to leadership and service.

“Katie is a compassionate leader, a dedicated friend, and inspiring role model for her peers,” said Marian social studies teacher Pat Turner.

Pietrosante plays an active role in numerous school and community activities. She is co-director of the Marian Mindset Project and secretary of the Friends of the Earth club and the National Art Honor Society. She is also a member of the Marian varsity bowling team, the National Honor Society, and the Women’s Empowerment Club. In addition, Katie recently qualified for states at the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) competition.

“This recognition is a testament to Katie’s kindness, dependability, and diligence both inside and outside of the classroom,” said Christina Krogh, Marian assistant principal. “We are so proud of her.”
