Julius (Jay) Becker, the son of Rene Becker, the first organist at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, died peacefully June 6 at the age of 85. Jay Becker, who celebrated his birthday 365 days a year, was born on March 15, 1929. Beloved husband of Julia “Sheila” (nee O’Sullivan). Loving father of Meg Becker and Catherine (Thomas) Washabaugh. Proud grandfather of Julie and Jenny Washabaugh. Brother of the late René Claude Becker, the late Catherine Angela Becker Smith, and the late Francis Joseph Becker. Brother-in-law of Helen Becker. Uncle of Pamela Becker Wilde (Bill) and René Becker (Cynthia). Great-uncle of Mark and Alex Wilde and Lucie Becker. Funeral Mass was June 9 at Holy Name Church, Birmingham.
