Livonia-based Trinity Health announces identity, logo

6-TrinityLivonia — After the 2013 merger of two of the nation’s largest Catholic health systems, CHE Trinity Health announced Nov. 19 it would adopt the name Trinity Health, settling on a permanent identity for the 21-state health system since the merger of Livonia-based Trinity Health and Pennsylvania-based Catholic Health East.

Trinity Health also unveiled a new logo the same day, with an eye toward “honoring the heritage of its ministry and the opportunities in its future,” the health system said.

The logo forms the shape of a cross using the wings of four doves — three purple doves symbolizing the Holy Trinity and one green dove “symbolizing the organization’s openness to new partners and new ideas.”

Sr. Mary Persico, IHM, executive vice president of mission integration for the health system, said the new name and logo were significant.

“In addition to the Holy Trinity being a core belief of the Catholic Church, Trinity in our name reflects our commitment to the ministry of healing body, mind and spirit,” Sr. Persico said.

Richard J. Gilfillan, president and CEO of Trinity Health, said the health system has “made great progress” since the merger in strengthening its capabilities to “deliver higher value and higher quality care.”

“Trinity Health is the perfect name for us; it tells the story of who we are, where we’ve come from and where we intend to go,” Gilfillan said. “At the same time, we understand that the most important name is the name of each person we serve.”

The name and logo change are unrelated to a sale of the health system’s St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron hospital to a private company, which was announced Nov. 20.
