Celebrating Detroit's patronal feast at the Basilica of Ste. Anne, Detroit
On July 26, Archbishop Weisenburger celebrated the patronal feast of the Archdiocese of Detroit, marking the memorial of SS. Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus, at the Basilica of Ste. Anne in southwest Detroit. Ste. Anne is the patron saint of the Archdiocese of Detroit, a designation made official by Pope Benedict XVI in 2011. The basilica is Detroit's oldest parish and the second-oldest continually operating parish in the United States, having been founded two days after the city of Detroit on July 26, 1701.
