Mary Jane Zdrodowski

Mary Jane Zdrodowski, formerly of Clinton Township, died Aug. 25 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Binghamton, N.Y. She was 93.

Mrs. Zdrodowski was active in her parish and in many volunteer organizations, and was a recipient of theMacomb County Outstanding Volunteer Award.

For 40 consecutive years she taught sewing and calligraphy to girls from Detroit’s inner-city as part of the Sacred Heart Enrichment Program.

“Mary touched the hearts of thousands of children in Detroit, especially young girls from the various eastside Catholic schools. She was a ‘mother counselor,’” said Sr. Annette Zipple, RSCJ, who coordinated the program.

Among her activities, Mrs. Zdrodowski also worked for 17 years with Literacy Volunteers, helping Polish immigrants.

She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Stevenson and Sharon Bryden; a sister, Alfreda Polan; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass was celebrated Sept. 10 at St. Paul of Tarsus Church, Clinton Township.
