May They Rest in Peace: Deacon Ronald A. Grenda

Deacon Ronald Alan Grenda, 78, passed away Oct. 10, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born March 4, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Walter and Anne Grenda. Ron graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1959 and served in the United States Air Force from 1959-1963. He worked for Weltronic & Newcor before starting his own renovation & remodeling company. 

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m., in-state 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 830 S,. Lafayette, South Lyon.

In 2009 he graduated from Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit and was ordained a deacon Oct. 3, 2009, for the Archdiocese of Detroit. Deacon Grenda was very passionate about his ministry and service to God, and served at St. Gerald Parish in Farmington and St. Joseph Parish in South Lyon.  

Deacon Grenda was a devoted husband to Cynthia, his bride of 53 years. He was an amazing father to Cecilia (Steven) Carlson, Stephen Grenda and Cheryl (Lawrence) Eberhart and a wonderful grandfather to Evan, Mitchell, Samuel, Lauren and Jacob. He will be remembered for his love of God, his family and his ability to fix almost anything. 

In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Deacon Grenda is survived by his siblings; James Grenda, Susan Reed, Corrine Stephens & William Grenda. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gerald Grenda.

Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 18, from 3-8 p.m. with rosary at 7 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home, 122 West Lake Street, South Lyon. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m., in-state 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 830 S,. Lafayette, South Lyon. A private family interment will be held in Great Lakes National Cemetery where Deacon Grenda will be laid to rest. Memorial donations may be made to VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System.
