May They Rest in Peace: Sr. Mary Kay Moran, OP

Sr. Mary Kay Moran, OP, formerly known as Sister William Mary, died on Monday, April 12, 2021, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 81 years of age and in her 61st year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sister Mary Kay was born in Toledo, Ohio, to William and Mary (Heitkamp) Moran. She graduated from Our Lady of Mercy High School in Detroit, Michigan, and received a Bachelor of Science Education degree in History from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian; a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics Education from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan; and a Master of Religious Education degree from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2021.

Sister spent 47 years ministering in elementary and religious education in Hometown, Oak Park, Chicago and Joliet, Illinois; San Francisco and Hayward, California; Carlsbad and Albuquerque, New Mexico; Ann Arbor, Adrian and Detroit, Michigan; West Palm Beach and Indiantown, Florida; Globe and Tucson, Arizona; and Ketchikan, Alaska. She taught at two Congregation institutions, Dominican High School and Academy in Detroit for two years and Rosarian Academy in West Palm Beach for one year. She also served as a pastoral minister at the Holy Family Mission of Metlakatla in Alaska and at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in St. Petersburg, Florida. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2014.

Sister Mary Kay was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Barbara Moran. She is survived by her brother, Thomas Moran of Livonia, Michigan, loving nieces and nephews, and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.

Due to COVID-19 mitigation protocols, the Dominican Life Center is closed until further notice to all guests or visitors. All are welcome to participate in Sister’s wake and funeral via live stream at http://www.adriandominicans.org/LiveStream.aspx 

The Vigil Prayer will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, in St. Catherine Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2021. Prayers of Committal will be held in the Congregation Cemetery.
