‘Miracle of the Sun’ prompts Fatima gatherings

Detroit — Catholics in all corners of the Archdiocese of Detroit will have a few opportunities to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Marian apparitions in Fatima, Portugal, on Oct. 13-14.

Downriver: On Oct. 13, the 100th anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun, Fr. John Hedges will celebrate Mass at 7 p.m. and then give a presentation on the miracle at the World Apostolate of Fatima, Detroit Archdiocesan Division’s Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, 18637 Ray St., Riverview. Fr. John Hedges is spiritual director of the apostolate’s Detroit chapter.

Northwest Wayne: Our Lady of Good Counsel in Plymouth, 47650 N. Territorial Road, will host “A Call to Mary” conference on Oct. 13, 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Oct. 14 at 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., featuring multiple speakers including pastor Fr. John Riccardo, Sacred Heart Major Seminary professor Robert Fastiggi, and Dr. William Thomas, professor of Mariology and director of the St. John Paul II Institute of Marian Studies in Ireland.

Blue Water: On Oct. 14, St. Mary Parish in St. Clair, 415 N. 6th St., will host “A Call to Mary” conference, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., featuring Fr. Frank Pavone, director of Priests for Life and Fr. Eduard Perrone, pastor of Detroit’s Assumption Grotto Parish.

Northeast Detroit: Also on Oct. 13, Fr. Perrone will give a talk titled “The Miracle of the Sun and the Eucharist, is there a connection?” at 6 p.m. at Assumption Grotto, 13770 Gratiot, Detroit. Another presentation will be given at the parish at 2 p.m. Oct. 15.
