DETROIT— Pastoral musicians from around the Archdiocese of Detroit are invited to take part in a chant “boot camp” Aug. 1-4 at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 9844 Woodward Ave., Detroit.

The 6-9 p.m. series, taught by Joe Balistreri, coordinator of music ministries for the Archdiocese of Detroit, will be a “down-to-earth, no frills instruction series on the basics of singing chant in English and Latin,” according to a release.

“Participants will sing four-line, square-note notation, practice the rudiments of Latin pronunciation, and discuss appropriate ways to introduce, teach and use chant in participatory liturgy,” it said.
