Sr. Agnes Helen Rabe, OP

Sr. Agnes Helen Rabe, formerly known as Florence Marie Rabe, died Aug. 7 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 93 and in the 75th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Rabe was born in Detroit to William and Helen (Skrobiszewski) Rabe. She graduated from St. Charles High School in Detroit and received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in history from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian.

Sister spent 53 years ministering in education in Chicago, Oak Park and Harvey, Ill.; Adrian, Detroit, Ubly, Ypsilanti and Warren, Mich.; Albuquerque, N.M.; Las Vegas, Nev.; and Oakland, Calif. She was principal for five years at St. John School in Ubly. She taught at St. Joseph Academy, Adrian (1963-64); Our Lady of Sorrows, Detroit (1962-63); St. Ambrose, Detroit (1964-66); St. Jude, Detroit (1966-67); St. John, Ubly (1967-72); St. Alexis, Ypsilanti (1973-74); Holy Name, Detroit (1974-77); St. Gerard, Detroit (1978-79); and St. Anne, Warren (1979-91). Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2011.

Sr. Rabe is survived by a loving niece and nephew.

The funeral liturgy was in St. Catherine Chapel on Aug. 11. Burial is in the Congregation cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, Michigan, 49221.
