Sr. Ann Corr, IHM

Sr. Ann Corr, IHM, formerly known as Sr. Mary Campion Corr, died July 15 at the IHM Sisters’ Motherhouse in Monroe, where she had been under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe. She was 92.

Sr. Corr was one of five children, four boys and one girl, of William and Elodie (Delbecq) Corr. She was born July 27, 1917 in Sheboygan, Wis., and given the name Anna. She attended several elementary schools in Ohio and St. Mary High School in Cincinnati.

She became a member of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe in 1940, taking the religious name of Sr. Mary Campion.

Sr. Corr earned a bachelor’s degree from Marygrove College, Detroit, before entering the IHM congregation, and later earned her master’s degree from the University of Detroit. She taught in formal education for 28 years at Girls’ Catholic Central, Immaculata and St. Patrick, all in Detroit; St. John, Benton Harbor; St. Michael, Flint; St. Mary Academy, Monroe; and St. Mary, Akron, Ohio.

For 17 years, Sister Corr worked in parish ministry and ministry to the aging at St. Timothy, Trenton; Holy Ghost Parish, Albuquerque, N.M.; and St. Stephen Mission, Ethete, Wyo.

After four years tutoring mathematics at Marygrove College she retired to the motherhouse in Monroe, where she volunteered as a driver and assisting in the book store. She entered the Health Care Center in 2003 where she remained until her death.

Sr. Corr is survived by her brother, Patrick, and nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated July 19 in the IHM Motherhouse Chapel by Fr. Robert Mossett. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery on the motherhouse campus.
