Sr. Aurilla Cousino, CSJ

20-CousinoSr. Aurilla Cousino, CSJ, entered eternal life July 11. She was born Irma Cousino in Toledo, Ohio, on June 17, 1915, the daughter of Cornelius and Aurilla (Etue) Cousino. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Erie at the time of her entrance into the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth on June 20, 1932. She pronounced first vows Jan. 7, 1935, and final vows Jan. 7, 1938.

Sr. Cousino earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Nazareth College and a master’s from the University of Detroit. She did post-graduate work at the University of Notre Dame and received certification in religious education at the Pius XII Institute in Detroit. Sr. Cousino taught or administered at St. Rita Parish, Detroit; St. James Parish, Ferndale; and Nazareth College. She was co-director of religious education at St. Justin Parish, Hazel Park. Sr. Cousino also did secretarial work at Bronson Hospital; St. Augustine Parish, Kalamazoo; and at the Nazareth Central Offices. In 1991, Sr. Cousino retired, but continued to work in the Fontbonne Library, the SSJ History Room and tutor at the Kalamazoo Literacy Council. She also coordinated the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program at Nazareth.

A Mass of Christian Burial was July 15 at Holy Family Chapel.
