Sr. Beatrice Hundt SC

Sr. Beatrice Hundt, SC, formerly Sr. Alberta Mary Hundt, SC, died Nov. 5 at the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati nursing facility, Mother Margaret Hall, Mount St. Joseph, Ohio. She was 90.

Born July 20, 1920, in Lansing to Albert A. and Mary (Weber) Hundt, the young Beatrice Mary Hundt was educated by the Sisters of Charity for 12 years at St. Mary School in Lansing, just across the street from her childhood home.

She earned a bachelors degree in education from the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, and a master’s degree in education from Xavier University, Cincinnati.

She was a Sister of Charity for 72 years, serving in education and pastoral ministry in the archdioceses of Detroit and Washington, D.C., and the dioceses of Cincinnati, Cleveland, Saginaw and Santa Fe, N.M.

Sr. Hundt served at Catholic schools in Ohio, Michigan and Maryland from 1940 until 1978 and taught every grade from the second through the 12th. In Michigan, she taught at St. James, Bay City. (1950- 51) and Shrine of the Little Flower, Royal Oak (1960 – 63).

Her ministry took a different path in 1978 when Sr. she moved to Albuquerque, N.M. to work as a pastoral minister with the senior population at St. Bernadette parish for the next 19 years.

She retired to the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati Motherhouse, Mount St. Joseph, Ohio in 1997, where she continued her ministry of service with aging and infirm Sisters at the motherhouse. She also participated in the ministry of prayer.

Sr. Hundt is survived by a brother, Stephen; a sister, Irene Hundt; and nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated last Friday, Nov. 12, in the Immaculate Conception Chapel at the motherhouse. Burial was in the Sisters of Charity cemetery.
