Sr. Carol Juhasz, IHM, died Feb. 26 at the IHM Health Care Center in Monroe. She was 62.
Carol Jean Juhasz was born March 3, 1951, in Monroe, one of four children of Stephen and Mary (Lear) Juhasz. She attended Riverside Grade School and Monroe High School. She entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe in 1984.
Before entering the IHM community, Sr. Juhasz worked at the ophthalmology office of Hanif Peracha, MD, in Monroe. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Marygrove College and a Master of Arts in pastoral studies from Loyola University, Chicago. While pursuing her degree at Marygrove College, Sr. Juhasz was active as lector, extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, participated in the worship commission and worked as a teacher’s aide at Our Lady of Loretto, Redford. From 1995-98, she served as pastoral associate and youth minister at Our Lady of the Woods, Woodhaven, often preparing instruction for the Stephen Ministers.
In 1998, Sr. Juhasz began as family life minister at St. Joan of Arc Parish, St. Clair Shores. She served in this ministry for more than 15 years, being present to the parish community as a first teacher of faith for children, new members and those returning to the Church, and walking with many in times of hardship and death. She entered the IHM Health Care Center in November 2013, where she resided until her death.
Sr. Juhasz is survived by her father, Stephen, sister Cheryl Tibai, brothers Mark and John, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary, in 2006.
The Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated March 3 at the IHM Motherhouse in Monroe. Memorials may be made to the IHM Retirement Fund, 610 W. Elm Ave., Monroe, MI 48162-7909.
