Sr. Dolores LaVoy, OP

19-LaVoySr. Dolores LaVoy, OP, formerly known as Sr. James Richard LaVoy, died Dec. 16 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 90 and in the 69th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Born in Toledo to Isadore and Matilda (Meinig) LaVoy, she graduated from Catholic Central High School in Toledo; and received a bachelor of home economics from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian.

Sr. LaVoy spent 26 years in education in Michigan, California, Illinois, Virginia and Ohio. In Michigan, she taught at St. Theresa School, Detroit (1946-47); St. Isidore School, Mt. Clemens (1959-65), where she also was principal; and St. Margaret School, St. Clair Shores (1965-66).

Sr. LaVoy is survived by four sisters: Adrian Dominican Sr. Joyce LaVoy, Margaret Vogan of Farmington Hills, Ruth Myers of Temperance, and Marie Kent of Portland, Ore.; and three brothers: James LaVoy of Beaver Creek, Ohio, Raymond LaVoy of Toledo, and Richard LaVoy of Paradise Valley, Ariz. She was preceded in death by three cousins: Adrian Dominican Sisters Marie Lambert LaVoy, Marie Gilbert LaVoy and Pauline Mary LaVoy.

Mass of Christian Burial was Dec. 20 in St. Catherine Chapel. Burial is in the Congregation cemetery.
