Sr. Edith Marie Agdanowski, CSSF

18-AgdanowskiSr. Edith Marie (Vianney) Agdanowski, of Bay City, 91, religious for 73 years, entered eternal life June 17, in St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia.

Born May 21, 1923, Edith was the only girl among five boys of Stanley Agdanowski and Mary (Piotrowski): Norbert, Raymond, Benjamin, Stanley and Gerald. Baptized at St. Stanislaus Church, Bay City, and confirmed at the same parish, Edith attended St. Stanislaus grade school and high school, and Felician Academy in Detroit. She entered the Congregation of Felician Sisters in 1940 and professed perpetual vows in 1948.

Sr. Agdanowski earned a Bachelor of Music in education from the University of Detroit and a master’s in music from the University of Notre Dame. Other related training was acquired from the Detroit Institute of Musical Arts and Wayne State University.

Throughout her 67 years in ministry, Sr. Agdanowski taught at several schools across Michigan, including: St. John Cantius, St. Hyacinth, St. Louis the King, St. Andrew, St. Casimir, St. Stephen, Immaculate Conception, all in Detroit; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Wyandotte; and Manistee Catholic Central. During her three years at St. Stanislaus, Jackson, she was both principal and teacher.

From 1968-70, she was assigned as housemother and organist to the Kinderheim in Carlsberg, Germany, a Polish children’s home for orphans. In 1972, Sr. Agdanowski began a 38-year appointment at Madonna University in Livonia, and in the mid-70s to 1988 was chair of the Music Department.

Sr. Agdanowski is survived by her brother, Gerald.

A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated June 24 at Presentation Chapel at the Felician Sisters Convent in Livonia. Burial is in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
