Sr. Elaine Frances Lederer, OP, formerly known as Sr. Joseph Loretta Lederer, died April 23 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 91 and in the 71st year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sr. Lederer was born in Chicago to Arnold and Camille (Pick) Lederer. She received degrees from Siena Heights College (University), Adrian; Santo Domingo University, Dominican Republic; University of Michigan; and Loyola University, Chicago.
Sr. Lederer spent 46 in education in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, New Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. In Michigan, she taught at St. Mary, Paw Paw (1947-48); St. Joseph, St. Joseph (1951-57); Benedictine High School (1960-61) and Dominican High School, Detroit (1968-70); and International Cultural Exchange, Ann Arbor (1972-73). She also served in pastoral ministry in Chicago.
She is survived by loving nieces and a nephew. A funeral Mass was celebrated April 27 in St. Catherine Chapel in Adrian. Burial is in the Congregation Cemetery.
