Sr. Georgiann Novak, OP, formerly known as Sr. Mary Bernarda Novak, OP, died Jan. 24 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 94 and in the 71st year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Novak was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Wenceslaus and Anna (Minarik) Novak. She graduated from St. John Nepomucene Commercial in Cleveland, and received a Bachelor of Home Economics degree from Siena Heights College (now University) in Adrian, and a Master of Arts in home economics from Michigan State University in East Lansing.

She spent 31 years ministering in education in Lansing, Dearborn, Ruth, Detroit, Northville, Farmington and Adrian. She served in various positions in Central Services at the Adrian Dominican Motherhouse for seven years, as director of secretarial services, secretary and data clerk. She was secretary at the Maria Health Care Center (Dominican Life Center) in Adrian 1978-1988. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 1988.

She is survived by several nieces.

A funeral Mass is to be offered in St. Catherine Chapel on the motherhouse campus in Adrian on Friday, Jan. 28, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the congregation’s cemetery.
