Sr. Margaret Gray, formerly Sr. Mary Eilese Gray, has died at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 91 and in the 72nd year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sr. Gray was born in Hudson, Mich., to Edward and Mary Elizabeth (Roney) Gray. She graduated from Sacred Heart School in Hudson and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Barry College (University) in Miami Shores, Fla.
Sr. Gray spent 32 years ministering in education in Michigan, California and Florida. In Michigan, she taught at St. Dominic School, Detroit (1941-43); Queen of the Miraculous Medal School, Jackson (1960-62); Guardian Angels School, Clawson (1962-64); and St. Bernard School, Alpena (1964-70), where she also served as principal.
Sister was also a principal at St. Stephen School in Saginaw for three years. She was manager of the Siena Heights College (University) bookstore for nine years, and for 28 years was a driver and staff member of the Transportation Department of the Dominican Motherhouse Campus. Sr. Gray became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 2010.
She is survived by loving nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by a sister, Sr. Irene Gray, also an Adrian Dominican.
The funeral liturgy was in St. Catherine Chapel on Nov. 27. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, MI 49221.
