Sr. Maris Stella Beaufait, OP, formerly Mary Jane Beaufait, died at the Dominican Life Center on Dec. 18.  She was 94 and in her 74th year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Born in Grosse Pointe to Joseph and Matilda (Couchez) Beaufait, she earned degrees from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian.

Sr. Beaufait ministered in elementary education in Illinois and Michigan, including St. Pius X, Southgate (1953-65, including as principal); St. Mary, Royal Oak (1965-72, including as principal); Our Lady of Sorrows, Farmington (1972-74). She was also coordinator of the St. Margaret Penafort Center (a retirement home for Dominican Sisters) in St. Clair Shores (1974-77); and was administrator of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian from 1982-85. She was administrator at St. Lawrence Convent in Utica for nine years, and volunteered as a tutor from 1994-2003 while a resident at St. Cletus Convent in Warren.

Funeral Mass was offered in St. Catherine Chapel in Adrian on Dec. 22. Rite of Committal was to be in the Congregation cemetery.
