Sr. Mary Elise Alphonsine Milostan, CSSF, of Alpena, died March 2 at the age of 90.

Sr. Milostan was born Feb. 6, 1926, the third of five children of John and Clara (Budnik). She entered the Congregation of the Felician Sisters and was invested with the habit on Aug. 11, 1945, receiving the religious name, Sr. Mary Elise. She made her first profession of vows the following year, and perpetual vows Aug. 12, 1952.

Sr. Milostan earned degrees from Madonna (College) University and Wayne State University. She taught at Queen of Apostles, Hamtramck; Resurrection, Holy Ghost, St. Casimir, Immaculate Conception, St. Stanislaus and Our Lady Help of Christians — all in Detroit; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Wyandotte; St. Stanislaus, Dorr; St. Mary, Alpena; St. Therese, Wayland; St. Damian, Westland; St. Stanislaus, Bay City; and St. Valentine, Kawkawlin.

In 2002, Sr. Milostan took up residence at St. Joseph Home Jackson, where she served as treasurer and assisted the child care center with retreats. She was assigned to the Provincial House in 2007.

Sr. Milostan is survived by a brother-in-law, Ed Shereda, nieces and nephews.

Mass of Resurrection was celebrated March 5 in the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Chapel of the Felician Sisters’ central convent in Livonia. Burial is in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
