Sr. SchallertSr. Schallert was born in Detroit to William and Maybell (McCarty) Schallert. She earned degrees in English and guidance from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian.
Sr. Schallert ministered for 38 years in education in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Florida, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and The Bahamas. In Michigan, she taught at Sacred Heart, Bad Axe (1947-53); St. Thomas the Apostle, Escanaba (1953-59, as principal); St. Jude, Detroit (1963-65); St. Lawrence High School, Utica (1965-66); St. Paul High School, Grosse Pointe Farms (1969-71); Dominican High School, Detroit (1971-75); St. Alphonsus High School, Dearborn (1978-80); and Benedictine High School, Detroit (1984-86). She also served as pastoral minister at St. Theresa Parish in Detroit (1975-76), two years as archivist and 10 years as a driver at the Dominican Motherhouse in Adrian.
Sr. Schallert is survived by nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass was offered in St. Catherine Chapel on the Motherhouse campus July 25. Rite of Committal was to be in the Congregation cemetery.
