Sr. Miriam Mullins, OP

Sr. Miriam Mullins, OP, formerly known as Sr. John Miriam Mullins, died at the Dominican Life Center. She was 79 and in the 62nd year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Miriam was born in Detroit to John and Mary (Blake) Mullins. Sister graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian and received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a Master of Science in mixed science from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, and a Bachelor of Theology degree from St. Paul University in Ottawa, Ontario.

Sister spent 18 years ministering in education at Our Lady of Sorrows (1952-62), Farmington; St. Dominic (1962-63), St. Gabriel (1963-68) and Rosary High School (1969-70), Detroit; and Adrian Catholic Central (1968-69), Adrian. She ministered for 20 years in adult religious education at St. William (1973-76), Walled Lake; Lakes Vicariate parishes (1976-78), Auburn Heights (now Auburn Hills); Our Lady of Refuge (1978-79), Orchard Lake; and St. Alphonsus (2001-02), Deerfield, as well as diocesan director for catechetical ministries in Las Vegas, Nev., for 13 years. Sister was co-provincial of Immaculate Conception Province in Detroit for three years and a member of the General Council for the Adrian Dominican Sisters for four years. She was also a member of the Adrian Dominican Constitution Committee and traveled to Rome to present this document to the Vatican. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 2002.

Sr. Miriam is survived by a brother, Bernard Mullins of Stuart, Fla., and a sister, Sr. Virginia Mullins, also an Adrian Dominican Sister. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sr. Mary Mullins (Sr. Patrick Jerome), also an Adrian Dominican Sister.

The Funeral Liturgy was Jan. 21. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, Michigan, 49221.
