Sr. Rita Catherine Louy, OP (Sr. Maria Immaculata), 93, died peacefully Jan. 4. She is survived by her sister, Mary Ann Louy. Her brother, James Louy, predeceased her. She was aunt to her brother’s three children and grand-aunt to many grand-nieces and nephews.Sr. Louy entered the Sisters of Notre Dame in Toledo, Ohio, and made her first profession in 1941, with the name Sr. Mary Carmen. Later, in 1969, after discerning a further call to the contemplative life, Sr. Louy transferred to the Order of Preachers as a Cloistered Dominican Nun, with the name Sr. Maria Immaculata. She professed solemn vows April 2, 1970.
Sr. Louy was an accomplished musician and served both her communities in related capacities: music teacher, organist, choir director, composer, etc. She was devoted to perpetual Eucharistic adoration at the monastery and kept a nightly hour with the Lord almost up until her last illness.
Mass of Christian Burial was Jan. 7. Burial is in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
