Sr. Sally Lannen, IHMSr. Sally Lannen, IHM, died June 4 in the IHM Health Care Center. She was 94 and an IHM Sister for 75 years.
Sr. Lannen was born Feb. 13, 1922, in Detroit to Joseph and Irene (Kralek) Lannen. She graduated from St. Mary of Redford and entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe in 1941, receiving the religious name, Sr. Josanne.
Sr. Lannen earned degrees from Marygrove College and Marquette University in Milwaukee. She taught at various schools in Michigan, Illinois, Puerto Rico and in Japan. In Michigan, she taught at St. Michael, Flint; Holy Redeemer, Detroit; St. Patrick, Wyandotte; and Lumen Christi High School, Jackson. She also continued her studies at Wayne State University, the University of Michigan, University of Detroit, St. John Seminary, De Paul University (Chicago) and the University of Scranton and Westminster College, both in Pennsylvania.
Sr. Lannen was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert; and her sisters, Aileen Mueller and Kathleen Barlum. She is survived by her sisters, Patricia (Mrs. Edward Harmon) and Jean (Mrs. David Wholihan); and nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial was celebrated June 8 at the IHM Motherhouse in Monroe. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery there.
