Sr. Sean Therese Halpin, OP

22-HalpinSr. Sean Therese Halpin, OP, formerly known as Charlotte Therese Halpin, died Dec. 17 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 86 and in the 67th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sr. Halpin was born in Lansing to James and Theresa (Lyons) Halpin. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian and received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in English from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian.

Sister spent 46 years ministering in elementary education in Detroit, New Baltimore, Harper Woods and Grosse Pointe Farms; as well as several schools in Illinois. She taught at Our Lady Gate of Heaven, Detroit (1947-53); Anchor Bay Catholic, New Baltimore (1967-69); St. Peter, Harper Woods (1969-77); and St. Paul, Grosse Pointe Farms (1977-86). She was a freshman moderator at Dominican High School in Detroit for nine years, and was a bereavement minister for 10 years at St. Clare Montefalco Parish in Grosse Pointe Park. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2006.

Sr. Halpin is survived by loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a cousin, Sr. Fidelis Halpin, also an Adrian Dominican Sister.
