Sr. FlynnSr. Sheila Flynn, OP, formerly Sr. John Damian Flynn, died Dec. 29 at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian. She was 87 and in her 69th year in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Born in Grosse Pointe to Edward Patrick and Marie Agnes (Aeno) Flynn, she earned degrees from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.
Sr. Flynn ministered for more than 34 years in education in Ohio and Michigan, including at St. John, Ypsilanti (1948-50); St. Joseph, Sault Ste. Marie (1950-51); Our Lady of Sorrows, Farmington (1957-62); St. Theresa, Detroit (1962-67); St. Joseph, St. Joseph (1967-69, as principal); St. Marine de Porres, Detroit (1969-72); Bishop Foley, Madison Heights (1972-75); and Benedictine, Detroit (1981-89). She also served as ministry associate at St. Scholastica, Detroit (1977-79); and in Christian service at St. William, Walled Lake (1979-81); with the AIDS Interfaith Network; Hospice of Michigan; Grace Hospital, Detroit; Presbyterian Village/Sinai-Grace, Redford; and with Sinai-Grace Hospital, Detroit.
Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 3 in St. Catherine Chapel in Adrian. Rite of Committal was to be in the Congregation cemetery.
