Sr. Stephanie Mueller, IHM

22-Sr-MuellerSr. Stephanie Mueller, IHM, 100, died May 9 in the IHM Health Care Center, Monroe.

Sr. Mueller was born to Louis and Eugenia (Schlegel) Mueller on Sept. 1, 1914, in Akron, Ohio, and given the name Louise. Her mother died one year after her birth and her father remarried and had a family of two girls and six boys. She entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Monroe in 1932.

Sr. Mueller earned degrees from Marygrove College and the University of Detroit. She taught middle and high school students at Epiphany, St. Francis de Sales, St. Cecilia, St. Mary of Redford, St. Matthew and Holy Redeemer, Detroit; St. Thomas, Ann Arbor; and St. Mary Academy and St. Mary Parish in Monroe. Sr. Mueller also taught high school in Illinois and Ohio.

In 1988, she moved to Taylor and served as secretary and receptionist at St. Mary Conference Center and in congregational leadership as councilor for the Southeast Province of SSIHM. She retired to the Motherhouse in Monroe in 1994.

Sr. Mueller is survived by her sisters in community and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Aloysius, Joseph, George, Leo, Albert and Ollie; and sister, Agnes Kiel.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 15 at the IHM Motherhouse in Monroe. Burial is in St. Mary Cemetery.
