Bishop Byrnes confirms 32 students

Dearborn — On March 1, 32 Catholic teenagers received the sacrament of confirmation at Sacred Heart Church in Dearborn.

Beforehand, Auxiliary Bishop Michael J. Byrnes spoke words of inspiration to the candidates and instructed them on what to say and when to say it. During the homily, the Most Rev. Michael J. Byrnes explained to the candidates that it is impossible to serve two masters — one must choose to serve God over worldly things such as money or status.

Bishop Byrnes also talked about how they must put all their trust in God and not to worry. Sacred Heart boomed with the echoes of each candidates’ “I do” during the Renewal of Baptismal Promises and Profession of Faith.

Then, students approached the bishop to be blessed with sacred chrism. The candidates participated in the Mass by bringing up the gifts, singing in the choir, or making announcements.

After the Mass, there was a reception in the parish hall for the confirmandi, their families and their friends. The confirmandi received the gift of the Holy Spirit and will now be active members of the Church as lectors and as extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion.
