Bishop Foley hosts Catholic League Cardinal Division hockey tournament

MADISON HEIGHTS — The Catholic League will determine its Cardinal Division hockey champion next weekend, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 21 and 22.

Madison Heights Bishop Foley will host the tournament on its home ice at the John Lindell Arena in Royal Oak, located at 1403 Lexington Blvd., east of Crooks Road.

On Friday, defending champion Ann Arbor Fr. Richard Gabriel (6-2) faces off against Allen Park Cabrini (6-6) at 5 p.m. Bishop Foley (7-5) meets Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett (9-4) at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the losers will play each other at 5 p.m. The winners square off for the championship at 7:30 p.m.

Approximately 80 varsity players from 10 area Catholic and affiliated high schools will be participating in accordance with Michigan High School Athletic Association rules governing co-operative programs.

The Bishop Foley United roster is composed of skaters from Foley, Royal Oak Shrine, Macomb Lutheran North, Clarkston Everest, and Marine City Cardinal Mooney.

Cabrini’s squad has players from Dearborn Heights Riverview.

University Liggett’s squad is composed of its own students.
