
Pontiac — In a rain-drenched, double-overtime thriller, Brother Rice High School scored its first Catholic League soccer championship since 2005 on Oct. 13, topping University of Detroit Jesuit with a 1-0 score.
Warrior senior midfielder Matthew Biehl headed the ball into the net off of a free kick by Russell Cicerone with just over seven minutes left in the second period to secure the win.
Brother Rice senior goalkeeper Griffin MacAloon recorded the long shutout victory in goal, while on the other end of the field, U-D Jesuit junior Max Harris kept up a shutout through regulation and the first overtime.
All-League honors in the Central Division were handed to U-D Jesuit’s Pat Ayres, Justin Pilarski, Aaron Rife and Dugan Rozman; Brother Rice’s Matt Biehl, Philipp Noessler and George Sami; De La Salle’s Nick Lamankski and Mike Moscone; and Catholic Central’s Gino Pulice.
All Academic honors were awarded to U-D Jesuit’s Jack Cunningham, Max Harris, Cameron Roberts and Robby Wilson; Brother Rice’s Adam Gorski, Matt Habrowski, and Tommy McInerney; De La Salle’s Mike Leone and Nick Zingas; and Catholic Central’s Alex Lang.
Making the All-Academic team were U-D Jesuit’s Michael Koziara, Brother Rice’s Connor DeMars, De La Salle’s Kyle Brunsman, and Catholic Central’s Ryan Majsak.
In the AA Division, All-League awards were given to Divine Child’s Jason Collins, Dekorsey DeMare, Chris Murray, and Alex Muszynski; Fr. Gabriel Richard’s John Downer, Matt McIntyre, Robert Rosenberger and Ricky Williams; Notre Dame Prep’s Chris Hoelesbeke and Andrew Scales; and St. Mary’s Prep’s Kyle Richards.
All-Catholic awards in the AA Division were given to Divine Child’s Brandon Smyth, Jake Singer, Nick Posh and Justin Kaput; Fr. Gabriel Richard’s William Schork, Sean Purcell and Matt Barera; Notre Dame Prep’s Connor Rehm and Nate Navarre; and St. Mary’s Prep’s Eric French.
All-Academic winners from the AA Division were Divine Child’s David Witcher, St. Mary’s Prep’s Adam Stock, Notre Dame Prep’s Hayden Smith and Fr. Gabriel Richard’s Justin Cooper.
