Catholics don’t know Scripture? These sisters do

ANN ARBOR — A team of three Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, took home another $20,000 for their order by reaching the finals of the Game Show Network’s popular “American Bible Challenge,” in an episode that aired April 11.

Contestants on the television network’s most-watched game show are tested on their knowledge of the Good Book, and teams are pitted against one another in competing for a chance to win $100,000 for the charity of their choice.

The Ann Arbor-based trio of Sr. Maria Suso, Sr. Peter Joseph and Sr. Evangeline bested the “Christian Wrestling Federation” and the “Righteous Rubies” to advance to the show’s final round. The sisters have already won a total of $40,000, which will be used to provide for the retirement of sisters in the order.

In the first round, team “Sisters of Mary” defeated a team of Christian tattoo artists.

In its second season, the “American Bible Challenge” is hosted by comedian Jeff Foxworthy and Christian music artist Kirk Franklin, and airs Thursday nights at 9 p.m. on the Game Show Network. The game show is already the most-watched in the TV network’s history.

“It really makes the Scriptures accessible in a way because it shows just how related Scripture is to our modern life,” said Sr. Evangeline, a novice in the order along with Sr. Peter Joseph, in an interview with My Fox Detroit (WJBK). “Some of it is tongue-in-cheek because it’s a fun game, but it’s also a great way to introduce some of the lesser-known Bible stories to people and to really show what’s all hidden in Scripture.”
