Detroit — Music, food and African drumming will be offered at a Sunday, Aug. 21, concert at Sacred Heart Church in Roseville to benefit a health clinic and Catholic girls’ school in Ghana, the west African country where parish member Carol Hofer served in the Peace Corps.
Local singer Julie Beutel, Eastpointe and Warren Idol winner Alex Eley, saxophonist Nicole Eley, guitar player Josh Bartolomeo and the Sweet Mountain Strings dulcimer group will be among the entertainers at the 2 p.m. concert.
Admission is by donation.
“I know times are hard for many people here, but the level of poverty and need in the developing world is so great, and such a great difference can be made with our help,” said Hofer, an Adrian Dominican associate.
The Shekhinah Clinic, which serves some 20,000 patients a year, is operated by Dr. David Abdulai, whom Hofer said has been called the “Mother Teresa of West Africa” for serving the poor.
Sacred Heart Church is on Gratiot Avenue at Utica Road, a few blocks north of the Reuther Freeway (I-696), in Roseville. RSVP to Carol Hofer, (586) 774-3144 or [email protected].
