Detroit Loyola hosts ‘Week of Respect’

Detroit — Loyola High School was to host a weeklong series of events April 11-15 to raise awareness against bullying and violence.

Loyola’s “Week of Respect” kicked off April 11 as students and faculty walked through the neighborhood surrounding the Detroit Jesuit high school and continued with several activities and discussions throughout the week regarding respect for the military, animals and fellow human beings.

On April 15, the school was to host 100 cognitively impaired students from Detroit Public Schools for a student-run carnival. The 9 a.m. to noon carnival was “to entertain and celebrate (cognitively impaired) students and their abilities rather than limiting them to dis-abilities,” the school said in a statement.

The “Week of Respect” builds on Loyola’s service-learning mission that includes weekly service projects around the community.
