DETROIT — Nationally known singer and storyteller ValLimar Jansen will be the keynote speaker at the Archdiocese of Detroit’s first Black Catholic Women’s Conference to be held April 28.

Jansen is a worship leader and conference presenter, as well as a college professor and recording artist. She has developed one-woman shows about the lives and careers of Ethel Waters and Sr. Thea Bowman.

Joni Scott, pastoral associate at St. Suzanne/Our Lady Gate of Heaven Parish in Detroit, said the conference was developed by women who had taken part in the National Black Conference for Women.

“These women have been so inspired by the messages that they have received at these conferences they wanted to bring this message to the women of Detroit and all cities throughout Michigan,” Scott said.

She said attendees “will leave knowing how God is the reason for the reflections of changes that they have seen in their lives and the hope for future changes to come.”
The conference is sponsored by the archdiocesan Office of Black Catholic Ministries.
